The Batavia Park District
For years, the Batavia Park District has provided fun, recreational activities through classes and outdoor activities. Batavia offers unique opportunities with ice skating at the Depot Pond and swimming at the Quarry. We've got the bike paths and the boat launch, fishing and nature walks. Batavia has many wonderful natural attributes and the park district has done an excellent job of making them available for recreation and enjoyment.
In addition, the District’s mission statement supports the green movement:
...to be a leader for a sustainable community that fosters stewardship of the environment, local recreational assets and open space while delivering high quality programs and services with a focus of fiduciary responsibility and customer satisfaction.
Their first goal is to be an effective steward of the environment and manager of the community recreational assets and open space. Some of the tactics to accomplish this goal include:
- Implementing and promoting a full recycle program within all aspects of District to include fuels, paper, recreational and landscaping supplies.
- Conversion and maintenance of bio-diesel fuel consumption in all District auto fleet.
- Consideration and implementation of environmental design elements in all park development projects to encourage green space and watershed quality control.
- Conversion and maintenance in energy saving techniques for lighting and District utility use.
- Forecast and plan future parks and open space via City Land-Cash Ordinance processes.
Their commitment to environmental stewardship is demonstrated by their new no-idle policy, the addition of water permeable paving at several sites, the planting of a rain garden and their garbage carry in/carry out for pavilion rentals.
